Position: BUYER I
Location/Department: Rome, New York / Purchasing (Department No. 9063)

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

• 1 to 3 years purchasing, materials, or scheduling experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Assoc. Degree preferred in related field of study
• Good written & verbal communication skills required
• Understanding of Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) and order replenishment techniques required
• Self-starter with excellent organizational skills required
• Strong computer skills (Information Systems, Microsoft Office, (XA) Mapics or equivalent
• Experience with buying Raw Materials (bar stock) such as Steel, etc. a plus
• Knowledge of CNC/Machine tooling a plus
• Experience with Lean/6S & 6 Sigma techniques a plus
• Minimum travel required

Essential:

• Fluency in English
• Responsible for providing effective communications channels with all BMS manufacturing disciplines including Production Control, Accounting, Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering

Significant Mental/Physical demands of the job;

• High energy level with superior concentration, analytical and communication skills.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Responsible for the day-to-day release of Purchase Orders to support manufacturing and Customer Orders
• Primary interface between manufacturing plant operations and Materials Manager
• Implement Negotiated PO Terms & Conditions (Quality, Delivery, Price, Logistics, and Value add to services, etc.)
• Monitor order status and past due reports; Expedite and de-expedite orders
• Initiate/Conduct Supplier interface & meetings
• Champion special needs/projects as directed by Materials Manager
• Negotiate lead-time and min/multiple requirements; establish safety stock levels
• Monitor supplier quality and delivery performance and initiate corrective action
• Develop and maintain assigned ISO procedures and related work instructions
