ACCOUNTING MANAGER

Position: Accounting Manager
Location/Department: Rome, New York / Finance (Department No. 9165)

Major Duties/Essential Functions:

  1. Maintain the General Ledger
  • Generate various journal entries
  • Review and reconcile various balance sheet accounts
  1. Financial Reporting
  • Generate and review monthly financial statements, both Internal and Corporate.
    • Coordinate the internal completion of financial reporting through the BPC system.
    • ERP (MAPICS/XA) period closing.
  • Consolidate Bartell Machinery Limited (Telford, UK) with Bartell Machinery Systems, L.L.C. (Rome, NY) operations
  • Assist in preparation of annual tax package and audit schedules
  1. Planning and Forecasting
  • Generate departmental spending reports in comparison to budget.
    • Provide written explanations of variances
  • Prepare and/or assist with monthly forecasts and the annual operating plan (budget).
  • Provide data/worksheets to assist managers in establishing spending budget
  • Load Budgets and Forecasts into MAPICS and BPC system as required
  1. Maintain fixed asset records
  • Utilize fixed asset software.
  • Maintain all fixed asset records – cost, method of depreciation, estimated life, monthly depreciation amounts, additions, deletions, gain or loss on sales/disposals.

     5. Assist in preparation of annual operating budget

  • Provide data/worksheets to assist managers in establishing spending budget
  • Load budget into spreadsheets for analysis
  • Load budget into MAPICS
  1. Maintain cost accounting standards
  • Review entry of inventory transactions
  • Review daily labor reporting
  • Review closed work orders and analyze related variances
  • Review purchased part activity and maintain “current” costs
  1. Supervise the accounts receivable and accounts payable personnel and functions
  • Oversee adherence to Company policy in establishing customer credit limits
  • Oversee the timely collection of all credit sales
  • Ensure customer payment obligations (down payments, letters of credit, and holdbacks) are met timely.
  • Ensure timely opening of all required standby letters of credit required of Bartell
  • Oversee the proper payment of Company obligations in accordance with Company policy.
  • Provide appropriate training on various software packages utilized

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions

RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONTACT WITH OTHERS OUTSIDE OF THE COMPANY:

  • Corporate accounting group/auditors
  • External audit firm
  • Customers
  • Suppliers

DEGREE OF DECISION-MAKING POWER AND ACTION WITHOUT HIGHER MANAGEMENT APPROVAL:

  • Moderate to significant. Accounts receivable function involves establishing credit limits within the Company’s overall credit policy

SIGNIFICANT MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

  • Significant time spent at keyboard entering data and significant time emailing, computer work, telephone work

SPECIFIC TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Associates Degree in Accounting; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • At least five years experience working in the accounting function of a manufacturing company
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Experience with automated spreadsheet software
