Position: Automation and Technical Services Supervisor
Location/Department: Rome, New York / Engineering

Primary Responsibilities

This position is a member of the Engineering Department. The Automation and Technical Services Supervisor will report directly to the Engineering Manager. This is a working supervisor position, meaning the supervisor will develop software, monitor, and deploy for project deliverables alongside the team.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Experience

  • Manage and coordinate the day-to-day work of Software Engineers ensuring on-time and on budget delivery of all projects.
    o Ensure on-time performance for all milestones along the project path, including releasing Risk Assessments, Process Flow Diagrams, Fault Handler Analyses, One-Line Drawings and the Machine Software. Work closely with the Group Project Team Leader’s to schedule the software needs and timelines for their projects.
    o Provide Automation Support for R&D projects.
    o Ensure zero defect designs are completed the first time using Bartell established Quality Assurance Process.
    o Supervise and schedule the activities and set priorities for the software engineers.
    o Develop standard procedures, check lists, and department standards as needed and ensure compliance.
    o Ensure safety and pertinent code conformance on all design projects.
    o Recognizes development needs and arranges training.
    o Utilize the most current design techniques and tools.
    o Collaborate with other departments to achieve business results.
    o Integrate mechanical, electrical and software systems to ensure deliverables meet customer and company expectations.
  • Manage and coordinate the day-to-day work of the TSS Electrical Engineers.
    o Recognizes development needs and arranges (or provides) training.
    o Work closely with the TSS Coordinator to schedule In-house commissioning and field commissioning. Always attempting to use the TSS Engineers first in the field and the Software Engineers when needed.
    o Lead troubleshooting activities both in house and at customer sites as needed to resolve software issues.
    o Develop proactive techniques to facilitate troubleshooting, and remote software support.
  • Provide strategic initiatives to advance the company in the Automation and Technical Services areas.
    o Look at ways to enhance the current products with Automation and Technical Services.
    o Look at ways to create new products or markets with Automation and Technical Services.
    o Create innovative ideas to meet customer requirements while utilizing existing company technology.
    o Takes appropriate risks and makes decisions taking full responsibility for outcome. Encourages employees to take appropriate risks and supports decisions by presenting evaluated pros and cons.
  • Remain abreast of current technological progress to ensure company’s products remain competitive.
    o Attend conferences, seminars and trade shows.
    o Challenges teams to build process to research and develop adjacent markets and technology.
    o Present technologies, process’s and techniques that improve company performance.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical Degree with ten (10) years related experience. A strong knowledge of Automation Software and Machine Process demonstrated.

Skills & Relevant Work Experience

  • Excellent written and oral communications.
  • Must be a leader and motivator and innovator.
  • Proficient knowledge of Automation software such as PLC, Motion and HMI.
  • Proficient knowledge of Machine Process and Process Control.
  • Proficient knowledge of analytical engineering design principles and problem-solving practices.
  • At least five (5) years of international travel experience

Travel Requirements: 15%
