Starting in 2018 a team of engineering students partnered with Bartell Machinery Systems to create a low-tension control system located in the cradle of a tubular stander. With the support of Bartell’s R&D department the SU students worked through all the phases of conception, CAD design, FEA modeling, and finally design and construction of a dancer-disk brake system.
During the second half of 2018 the team ordered and manufactured parts and began assembly on the prototype. With time to spare the team was able to complete assembly and test the prototype. The dancer-brake design that the team created as the solution to the problem is now currently in the process of being patented by Bartell.
