Position: PTL Mechanical Engineer T&R
Location/Department: Rome, New York / Engineering

The Position

 This position is a member of the Engineering Department. The Mechanical Engineering Project Team Leader (Tire & Rubber) will report directly to the Engineering Manager.

Job Description

 Primary Responsibilities 

Manage engineering team of mechanical and electrical engineers, technicians and drafters. Perform engineering and develop designs / models, BOM’s, drawings, schematics, process flow diagrams, risk assessments, and other necessary documents and procedures to fulfill the requirements of an order.

  • Manage day to day projects and activities of all team members, ensuring project deliverables and deadlines are on track
  • Develop critical operating tasks (COTs) for all department staff with support from department manager
  • Conduct written and verbal performance reviews for all department staff members with support from department manager
  • Conduct weekly department team meetings for project status and schedule reviews and transfer of pertinent communication
  • Guide and mentor team members professionally and technically (ongoing)
  • Manage factory order (FO) projects for confirmation of project scope, budget, and schedule performance
  • Hold department staff members accountable for performance, safety, design, and ISO conformance
  • Communicate clear, concise, and timely expectations to department engineering staff

Project Management

  • Review and understand sales order, quote, customer specifications
  • Ensure on time completion of assignments and within cost parameters
  • Coordinate schedules with TSS for commissioning and service work

Lead the new design for all products and/or re-design of existing products with minimum supervision

  • Utilize most current design techniques and tools (including GD&T, S/W’s,)
  • Assure all documentation is maintained and complete, such as drawings, engineering releases, commissioning books/manuals, and calculations
  • Design in accordance with all pertinent safety and design standards

Education Job Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (engineering preferred) with 7 years of job related experience
  • Technical Degree (engineering preferred) with 10 years of job-related experience

Skills & Relevant Work Experience  

  • Technical Engineering Experience with 15 years of job-related experience in similar industrial / manufacturing environment specializing in Tire/Rubber, Wire/Cable, or Oil/Gas strategic business units
  • Responsible for establishing training and orientation of new staff or new procedures for department
  • Significant input on finding, hiring, and performance managing all department team members
  • Interviewing skills are an essential skill competency for this position
  • Must demonstrate proven leadership success and excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Supervises both mechanical and electrical engineers and department staff within assigned group
  • Writes COT’s and performance reviews for all department team members by utilizing corporate COTs with assistance provided by Department Manager

 

Travel requirements: Up to 25%
